Born in a small town in North Georgia, I have dreamed since a young child of becoming a teacher. As early as I can remember, I played school with my younger sister, assigning work and grading it. I have been fortunate to have the opportunity to obtain a Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood Education with an endorsement in English to Speakers of Other Languages at a college near my hometown. Though the coursework has been at times demanding, the experiences that I have had and the knowledge learned will follow me throughout my career.
My professional goals include both short term and long term goals for myself as a future educator. For my short term goals, I plan to solidify a position in public education where I can grow as a professional educator. An additional goal of mine that embodies both a short term and a long term time frame is making a difference with the students in my classroom as well as in the community in which I will be teaching. Long term goals of mine include finishing my education by obtaining a Masters’ degree. Specifically the Masters’ degree that I have targeted is a Masters of Education in Reading, Language, and Literacy. In addition to this degree, I plan to pursue my education further through a specialist’s degree and eventually a doctorate. An additional long term goal that I have set is to further my knowledge of Spanish in order to assist future parents and students whose native language is Spanish. I also plan to make contributions to the curriculum in the school system in which I teach either through a future position in the curriculum department or through other means such as serving on committees. An additional long term goal of mine as a future educator is to have professional literature published. I am a firm believer in the importance of sound research and ideas and one day I wish to contribute to the vast information available to better our educational system. As ambitious as these goals are, I know that with hard work and dedication, I will find success in my endeavors. I would like to end my introduction with one last, most important goal: to make a difference in the lives of each and every student I teach.
